OACP Green Initiatives
Supporting our Neighbors and the Planet
According to the USDA, the national average for food waste at a retail/consumer level is estimated to be 31%. The Oshkosh Area Community Pantry (OACP) is dedicated to supporting our neighbors in need while ensuring sustainable practices and procedures. Through a variety of initiatives OACP works tirelessly to divert food waste, recyclables, and compostable material from our landfills each day. In 2024, OACP rescued nearly 1.2 million pounds of food from local grocers and had a total food loss of just 3%, significantly lower than the national average.

The NexTrex program is a plastic film recycling initiative that collects plastic bags, film, and wrap from agencies like OACP. The program's goal is to reduce plastic waste and divert it from landfills, ultimately recycling the plastic into Trex's outdoor products like decking and furniture. OACP has been a NexTrex Program participant since 2024
